“I’m high when I’m drinking the water”…

So said I in my latest track “Water” featuring Complex Shadow. The track sits alongside two others: “Wasting My Love” and “OMW”, in a three track UK Garage EP on Ducale Records…

What is so poignant about the aforementioned lyric, is the quest for life. Living day-to-day, drinking my daily recommended two-litres of water, I find my mind often wanders down various avenues, seeking change or to bring doubt upon myself. Water, however, is the essence of how we live. We need it. I guess within the context of this song, Water represents a mediator, cooling our doubts like a fireman in a strong inferno. Enabling me to focus on the good things in life, the things to look forward to. Elevating my psyche without needing to get absolutely hammered. It’s the way in which this metaphorical meaning brings my conscience to a flow state. Making me “high” whilst drinking the water.

The reason I feel so passionately about this topic is because I feel like people often turn to alcohol, substances, unhealthy food or their phones to give them that dopamine release. While it’s easy to understand, there is a great issue of presence and self awareness that is often overlooked. There is something to be said for being happy without feeling the need to take these things. Perhaps people might need to start therapy or counselling to ease the internal commotion. Myself included, I will start working with a therapist soon as I have experienced a few things this year that I feel have subconsciously built up in my head without me having the presence of mind to take action before my brain spirals out of control. Yet in the context of this track, one should feel high everyday, just drinking water.

There’s much to be said for controlling your internal rhetoric. Truthfully, I think that if you can feel as if you’re in a state of euphoria everyday, while only drinking water (and eating right, exercise, etc), you're on the right path. This song is about being content within oneself. Making the right choices for you and giving yourself the best chance in life to be happy with what you have. Water is natural. I feel like being present in yourself enables you to ride the wave that nature brings. No matter if it’s good or bad, it’s important to lock in to your natural self and identify who you are on a spiritual level, the person that the universe has decided that you’d become. This will give you the ability to overcome whatever challenge life brings you. You know that when things are tough, it is important to believe in who you are and know how to deal with your emotions. Like I said, this is something I am dealing with presently, and it is a challenge to bring yourself to work on these issues.

Metaphorically, drinking the water is allowing yourself to be you, enabling yourself to douse your own fires before they soar to a level where they burn down the building. That has happened to me many times in life, and this is a timely reminder for myself and everyone else to tune into your real self and emotions. Otherwise, you will have to keep rebuilding. That’s tiring. So ultimately this is a song about being happy with yourself and having the presence to take actions that will make you feel “high” when “drinking the water”. I hope this song is pleasing. I like to take an artistic approach to my music and deliver a message, usually about life, emotions and feelings, that could make an impact on other people.

Thanks for reading and I’ll catch you soon.
