“Resist the Urge” is a downtempo dance-pop track from UK producer, singer and songwriter Cue J. Now based in Berlin, Cue J looks back on his life in England and the difficult experiences that shaped him during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Although that period affected people around the world, it became deeply personal for Cue J when one of his closest friends died by suicide. “Resist the Urge” was created in response to that loss, transforming grief and painful memories into a message of compassion and hope.

The track speaks to anyone experiencing suicidal thoughts or feeling overwhelmed by life. Its message is simple but vital: pause, reach out and seek support. No one should have to face those moments alone.

Cue J draws on his own experiences of hardship throughout the song. Rather than hiding from the past, he uses music as a way to confront trauma, release thoughts he has carried with him and create something that may help others feel understood. The restrained, downtempo production gives the words space to breathe, while its dance-pop pulse carries the song forward through moments of vulnerability and reflection.

For Cue J, “Resist the Urge” is both a personal tribute and an invitation to keep going. It honours the memory of a lost friend while reminding listeners that asking for help is an act of strength. Even in the darkest moments, another path remains possible.

“Resist the Urge” is released by Ducale Records.

If you are struggling with suicidal thoughts or believe you may be in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services or a suicide-crisis service. If possible, tell someone you trust and stay with another person while you seek help
